Our team at the

ATHENS SCIENCE FESTIVAL

April 2024

Our team, once again, joined forces with the Young Minds Section of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, and is to attend the Athens Science Festival, on Wednesday 17.04.2024. The members of our teams have been divided into two groups and will present different aspects and apparatus of modern physics.

Exploring Particle Physics

The first team focuses on presenting and explaining elementary particles to elementary, middle and high school students, also showing them the ATLAS detector of the Large Hadron Collider. We are ready to answer any questions you may have, adapting our explanations to your age! We have also prepared a large-scale presentation of the detector included in the ATLAS detector, such as the trackers and calorimeters, with further explanations of its parts.

For younger children, we have prepared crafts where they can easily and in detail see how electrons, protons and neutrons rotate atoms, as well as crafts where they can see the trajectories of particles after a collision between beams in the ATLAS detector. We also explain how particles interact with the detectors and how we determine their type according to their behaviour. Our main goal is to show you that physics does not stop at atoms but goes much deeper, trying to excite their interest and ignite the spark of curiosity. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn about the wonders of the universe and we are dedicated to making that happen.Â
